AXON SYSTEMS Preventative Maintenance Procedures
Regular maintenance is a critical
part of assuring the long term reliability of your
Axon equipment. Regular maintenance must include
not only the Axon equipment, but also any items
connected to the system plus the room environment
and the power that feeds the equipment.
This is an outline of required maintenance
items. Only a brief explanation is provided for
each item. More information can be found in the
Axon Manual, Axon Information Notes, and in documentation
supplied by other equipment manufacturers. For

DATA SECURITY (for 3M Tape and ZIP Drives)
| MAKE |
Maintain a SAFE backup tape or Zip cartridge of your data. Keep it current. |
| DAILY |
Backup daily. Rotate tapes or cartridges on an even-odd
day basis. |
| REPLACE |
Replace tapes or cartridges regularly. 100 passes, tops. |
| MONTHLY |
Reset statistics (operator, account, call detail). Don't
let them accumulate. |
| WEEKLY |
Reset system statistics. |
| MONTHLY |
Archive at least monthly, or at about 60,000 transactions. |
| MONTHLY |
Run Pointer Verification each time you archive. |
| MONTHLY |
Run AXON/ Data Manager diagnostic software to analyze
your customer data. |
| 6-MONTHS |
Reformat your disk drive and reload from a current or
SAFE tape. |
TAPE and DISK DRIVE UNIT
| WEEKLY |
Clean the 3M tape drive unit
per specific cleaning Instruction Note. |
| 3-MONTHS |
Vacuum the bottom and rear chassis
vents. |
| 6-MONTHS |
Remove the top cover. Clean inside,
including the fans and the power supply area. |
MAIN CHASSIS
| 3-MONTHS |
Vacuum vents at the rear of the
chassis, and inside if dusty. |
| 6-MONTHS |
Remove cards and clean the edge
connectors.
Dust inside chassis.
Remove the top and bottom covers and vacuum the vents.
Open the power supply area and clean. |
EXTERNAL
| MONTHLY |
Re-check all system grounding
including Station I/O, anti-static mats, and
chassis. |
| MONTHLY |
Inspect your UPS. Check its battery. |
| 3-MONTHS |
Inspect all cabling. Check (and
relieve) any and all sharp cable bends |
FMDS
| NOTE |
Follow maintenance procedures
recommended by the manufacturer. |
| REMEMBER |
Backup your information. Clean
the floppy drive and clean PC inside and out. |
VOICEMAIL
| MONTHLY |
Backup your information. Run
Defrag and Norton Disk Doctor. |
| REMEMBER |
Clean the unit inside and out.
Clean the floppy drive. |
MONITORS, KEYBOARDS, PRINTER
| 3-MONTHS |
Vacumm vents on monitors and
the dust from keyboards.
Clean the monitor screens.
Vacuum the inside of the printer.
Clean theplaten and change the ribbon cartridge. |

| IMMEDIATELY CALL AXON CUSTOMER
SERVICE. Even if nothing seems wrong! |
