Telescan Technical Services Bulletin

This month the Tech Services Bulletin addresses a couple of frequently asked questions. Please let us know how you like these bulletins. We welcome feedback and ideas for future issues.

Microsoft Service Pack 2 (SP2)
Telescan has successfully completed the testing of Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) with all of the Telescan proprietary software. It has been determined that all of the software is compatible with SP2. It is strongly advised that all clients apply SP2 to any computers that are running the Windows XP operating system software in order to take full advantage of added security that SP2 provides.

HELP IN A HURRY
For quick references, use the electronic HTML help. There is a Help file for Operator Functions, Management Functions, Email Server and Fax Manager. These HTML help files are located on the software update CDs and can be loaded onto all web consoles, the administrator PC or any other Windows PC.

SCHEDULES, SCHEDULES, AND MORE SCHEDULES
We are using the Spectrum On-call Scheduler and one on-call schedule is the same for several accounts. How can this be set up without re-entering the same schedule multiple times?

SOLUTION
Utilize the MLI field on the AMR. Multiple accounts can share the same on-call schedule without the need to copy or re-type the same schedule over and over again. By linking the MLI fields, accounts will share “locate instructions”. The Locate Instructions area at the console is linked to the “Instructions” area in the On-call agent window. To setup: Choose one account to be the “master” or lead account. Leave the MLI field on the lead account blank. For all related accounts that share locate instructions or On-call schedules, enter the lead account’s number in the MLI field on each subsequent account.

ONE IS RARELY ENOUGH
A client wants one message to be sent to multiple email addresses? How can we accommodate the client’s request on our Email server?

SOLUTION
Create an email group on the Email Server. From the setup menu option, choose Email Group. Create a name for the group. Insert all desired email addresses into the list window. Choose save when all addresses have been entered. Type @@ in the Email field on the AMR followed by the email group name without any spaces. Make sure the appropriate format has been entered and the desired method of transmission has been configured i.e. auto vs. scheduled transmit. The message(s) will be transmitted per the method selected to each of the addresses included in the group.
